I got involved with Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research because my best friend, a journalist colleague called John Merritt, died of leukaemia in 1992
and his daughter Ellie died of the same disease a few years later. When I took up running in 2002, LLR was the obvious charity to pick because of John, and I have done marathons, triathlons and other sports and corporate fundraising for them.
I am now chairman of fundraising and try to do something, sometimes big, sometimes small, for the charity every day.
Fundraising is a mindset. I am currently helping LLR with preparations for our 50th anniversary later this year, including trying to get 50 corporates and individuals to raise £50k each. It has been tough in the recessionary climate but we are getting there.
